Lover boy looks to action film
Varun Sandesh, who made his debut with a hit film like ‘Happy Days’ successfully overcame the second film hitch with ‘Kotha Bangaru Lokam’ by making it run above average to hit mark. However, his third film ‘Yevaraina Yeppudaina’ did not do so well at the box office. Realising that sticking to a particular image won’t help him, Varun chose to throw his weight to action masala too. Anandi Arts had come forward to do one such film introducing Sandeep Gunnam as director. Though not so great, Varun tried his best to do action scenes, but could not impress the audiences with his lean personality.

STORY:
Varun (Varun Sandesh) is an irresponsible, happy-go-lucky teenager, who completes his BA degree. He is fond of motorbike since childhood, but his father (Tanikella Bharani) could not buy him a bike as he runs a middle-class family. Varun had several other wishes and one among them is partying with his friends. He steals money from his father’s pocket and throws a birthday party. He returns home after boozing and revolts against his father for not having money and not giving him any money. Varun’s father gives off Rs 70,000 saved for his daughter’s marriage the next day. Varun fulfils his long time wish of owning a bike, TVS Apache, and soon secures a job of loan recovery agent in a bank. He starts getting salary and proves that he is also a responsible youth.
Varun who is in love with a girl called Hema (Neha Sharma) for two years, proposes her after procuring the bike and securing a decent job. She too agrees and both of them roam happily on the bike. On the other side of the coin, Satya (Bommali Ravi Shankar), runs a mafia with help of his brother Ravi and a trusted lieutenant Bullet. Ravi is envious of Bullet as his brother always trusts him. Satya’s men once kill a corporator. The same day, Varun takes Hema to her house and parks his bike outside and drops her at her doorstep. By the time he returns he finds that his bike is missing. Nobody there could give a clue about the bike as every one is discussing about corporator’s murder. The bike was lifted by a regular offender called Bhagawan, a gang member of Satya. Once Satya surrenders to police in one case and Ravi agrees to handle the transport of ganja as was asked by a Seth. He transports the ganja by stuffing it in small packs in the petrol tanks of stolen motor vehicles to avoid police checks. Varun’s bike was also used for the same purpose. Varun searches several places and contacts people who deal with stolen vehicles but could not find his bike. He even lodges a complaint with the police.
Learning that Varun lodges a complaint against Bhagawan, Ravi warns Varun to withdraw the complaint. In the process, he pushes Varun’s father and injures him. Unable to digest this, Varun beats Ravi black and blue. So Ravi wreaks vengeance against Varun and tries to attack Varun again but loses in his hands. After Satya’s return from jail, he chides Ravi for attacking Varun again and again. Unable to hear chidings from his own brother, Ravi plans and kills Satya when Bullet was not in the city. After his return Bullet starts a killing spree and targets Varun too. Meanwhile, he comes to know from Seth that Ravi killed Satya. Knowing this, he allows Varun to kill Ravi. In the meantime, police take away Varun in narcotics case as the bike belonged to him. Varun proves his innocence as he lodged police complaint earlier that his bike was stolen. The police return his bike. With getting his bike back and teaching a lesson to Ravi, the film ends on a happy note.
PLUS:
Though a debutant director Sandeep handled the story efficiently with a gripping screenplay and tight movement of the subject. The entire story revolves around the hero and his bike. This delicate storyline was aptly handled by the director, by mixing elements like sentiment, love and friendship. Surprisingly, the character of main villain in the film was suppressed and the second villain was highlighted. The main villain gets killed by the second villain, who is also his brother. This highlights the greatness of the director who proved that criminals would have no sentiment. Though not all the songs are impressive, a couple of tunes by Achu are good to listen, while the remix of a hit song ‘Kurralloy Kurrallu’ was perfectly tuned and choreographed on the screen. Another song with Hindi film titles is also good to listen and was shot well. Action scenes by Rambo Rajkumar are also impressive with a good amount of nativity. Varun gave a better performance than his earlier films. For a change he played a responsible teenager and tried his best to do action scenes. However, he should improve his dialogue modulation. Neha Sharma of ‘Chiruta’-fame is okay opposite Varun and she shed her weight and appeared cute and slip. Others like Tanikella Bharani, Ravishankar and others did justice to their roles. Ali plays the role of Jilani, a loan defaulter, and tickled the funny bone of audiences, while MS Narayana and Nalla Venu also did a decent job.
MINUS:
Though looked glamorous, Neha Sharma still needs to hone her acting skills. The major draw back of the film is the lean personality of Varun Sandesh. He should tone up his body he wants to continue his career in action films. The director, though ran the story in a gripping manner, he should also concentrate on comedy scenes as it gives a good relief and provides good entertainment. Varun Sandesh failed to impress the audiences in action scenes and it appeared quite cinematic despite a good show by the hero.
REMARKS:
Anandi Arts, which is known for bringing out family and love subjects chose to do an action film, of course with a touch of love and sentiment. The banner succeeded in its attempt to select a good director who efficiently managed to bring out the film with mass elements. The entire film was targeted the youth and mass audiences and it almost succeeded in it. However, with less saleability of the hero, the openings are quite low and it may pick up after good publicity and mouth-talk among the young generation and mass audiences. One had to wait and watch how far Varun Sandesh succeeds in pulling crowds to the theatre.
