Floods have left 2.5 million people homeless. Severe efforts have been going on to prevent breaching of krishna river’s embankment at Vijayawada. 200,000 people close to the river have been relocated. 5 million people are crammd in temporary shelters. So far the loss due to floods has been estimated to be whopping Rs12,225 crores resulting from washed away roads, power, irrigation tanks and telecom facilities. In the power sector, a 770-mw hydel power unit at Srisailam is under water. The unit is unlikely to restart production for the next four months
